Call for Chapters: Voices Without Faces—Synthetic Communicators, Trust, and Accountability

Contributions are invited for Voices Without Faces: Synthetic Communicators, Trust, and Accountability—Arab and Global Perspectives, an edited volume proposal being prepared for Emerald Publishing.

The volume examines AI news anchors, automated bylines, virtual influencers, and AI spokespersons across journalism, broadcasting, and public relations. It explores who speaks when AI communicates on our behalf, audiences’ right to disclosure, and accountability when synthetic communicators make mistakes. Particular attention will be given to Arab and Global South experiences.

The editors welcome theoretical, empirical, and practitioner contributions addressing topics including:

  • Ethics, disclosure, consent, voice rights, and accountability
  • Deepfakes, disinformation, and impersonation
  • AI bylines, automated news, and synthetic journalist personas
  • Virtual presenters, voice cloning, and automated dubbing
  • Virtual influencers, AI spokespersons, and crisis communication
  • Audience trust, credibility, and parasocial relationships
  • Gender, language, culture, and representation
  • Regulation, professional codes, media education, and the future of work

Submission requirements: Submit an abstract of approximately 300 words and an author biography of approximately 100 words to both editors. Full chapters should be 6,000–7,000 words and will undergo blind peer review by two referees.
