On 25 May 2018, the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) took effect across the European Union. One key purpose of GDPR is to afford individuals greater control over their personal data. In the case of personal data that is processed, the data subject has the right to be informed of the processing, of what data is being processed and for what purpose.
NordMedia Network is managed by Nordicom, a Nordic non-profit knowledge center and publisher in the field of media and communication research based at the University of Gothenburg. One of Nordicom’s mission from the Nordic Council of Minister is to “strengthen the contacts and collaboration between Nordic media and communication researchers”. NordMedia Network processes personal information as part of fulfilling that mission.
We need to process your personal information in order to a) use and openly publish information that you have voluntarily provided b) keep in touch and communicate with the you via a newsletter and c) keep in touch and communicate with you via personalized mailings and initiations within relevant fields. The University of Gothenburg is responsible for the data processing of your personal data.
We will only process the personal information you provide to us. The legal basis for processing your personal information when you register as a user in the research database is public interest. When you sign up for our newsletter the legal basis is contract and when you sign up for mailings and invitations the legal basis is xx.
Your personal data will be shared with the web agency Raket in Gothenburg, as they have built the database and continue to serve as a support function. Raket cannot however use your personal data for any of their own purposes or share them with anyone else.
Your personal data will be saved in the research database until you choose to delete your profile. If you have been inactive for an extended period of time, we will contact you to ensure that your information is still accurate.
If you find that some of the personal data that we process about you is incorrect, you can always contact us and get your personal data corrected. You can also contact us and request that we delete your personal data. In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation you have certain other rights that we want to inform you about. These include the right to access (retrieve records), limitation of processing, data portability and the right to object.
